BCCI to review IPL 2026 Impact Player rule following player and team concerns
The IPL 2026 tournament concluded months ago, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL Governing Council held a virtual meeting to discuss the controversial Impact Player rule. Several franchises had submitted feedback about the rule, which has faced criticism for disadvantaging bowlers and causing all-rounders to be underutilized. Prominent cricketers including Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and former players like Suresh Raina and Sachin Tendulkar have voiced opposition, arguing the rule inflates batting dominance and affects the balance of the game. The BCCI plans to formally review the rule next month, considering whether to continue or scrap it, due to concerns about its impact on player opportunities and team composition, especially the development of Indian all-rounders.
