'Clicky Ponting' Cricketer Brian Devine Banned for Two Years; Saltburn CC Relegated
Brian Devine, nicknamed 'Clicky Ponting' following a cheating incident during the 2026 English cricket season, has been banned from all cricket activities for two years, effective until the end of the 2028 season. Devine was seen tricking an umpire by clicking his fingers to simulate a caught edge in Division Two of the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League. Saltburn Cricket Club's 2nd XI, Devine's team, was relegated to Division Three and fined £300 by the league after accepting misconduct charges. The 2nd XI will also begin the 2027 season with a 60-point deduction. The league and the club acknowledged the impact of the scandal on the volunteer-run club and confirmed the disciplinary process is now complete.
