Daniel Weston Plans Eco-Friendly Cricket Stadium in Spain to Host Test Matches
Daniel Weston, an Australian entrepreneur, is constructing Campo Maximo, an environmentally sustainable cricket ground in Playa Flamenca near Alicante, Spain. The stadium will use solar power and rainwater harvesting, featuring an innovative artificial grass outfield designed to mimic natural turf while reducing maintenance. Weston aims for the venue to be the 'home of European cricket' and hopes it will eventually host Test matches and major tournaments like the Indian Premier League. The ground will initially have a 1,000 spectator capacity, expandable with temporary stands, and is expected to start hosting games by 2028. Spain's Cricket Espana is an ICC Associate member, and there are no regulatory barriers preventing international matches there if ICC venue standards are met.
