Five Players Including Australian Daniel Hughes Leave Sussex After 2026 Season
Sussex County Cricket Club announced the departure of five players at the end of the 2026 season, notably Australian batsman Daniel Hughes, who was the leading run-scorer with 746 runs at an average of 37.30 in the County Championship. Hughes has spent three seasons with Sussex and praised his time at the club as highly enjoyable. Director of Cricket Paul Farbrace highlighted Hughes's significant role in both performance and mentoring home-grown players. The other players leaving are Scotland's left-arm seamer Brad Currie, batsman Harrison Ward, spinner Troy Henry, and seamer Nantes Oosthuizen. Additional departures announced earlier include wicketkeeper John Simpson and others moving to various counties. Concurrently, Farbrace is transitioning from head coach to director of cricket starting November.
