Manchester City Stay Perfect With Narrow Coventry Victory
Manchester City continued their flawless start to the new Premier League season with a narrow 1–0 win over Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium, making it three victories from their opening three league matches. City dominated possession for long periods and spent much of the game probing for an opening against a disciplined Coventry side. The visitors defended in numbers and made it difficult for City to create clear-cut chances, forcing the hosts to remain patient. The decisive moment eventually arrived in the second half, when City finally broke through and turned their territorial dominance into the only goal of the match. Although the performance was less explosive than some of their earlier displays, the result showed another side of Manchester City’s game. They remained composed, avoided forcing the issue and managed the closing stages professionally to secure all three points. The victory takes City to nine points from nine, keeping them level with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League after three rounds. Their early-season form has already created the impression that the title race could once again become a direct battle between the two clubs. For Coventry, there were positives despite the defeat. They frustrated City for long spells and stayed in the match until the final whistle, but were ultimately unable to find an equaliser. Manchester City may not have produced their most spectacular football, but they did what title contenders are expected to do — find a way to win.
