Mohammad Amir Denies Participation in IPL 2027 Mini-Auction Despite British Citizenship
Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has clarified that he will not participate in the IPL 2027 mini-auction despite rumors fueled by his British citizenship. Amir, who recently acquired British nationality and registered for the Afghanistan Premier League draft as a UK national, dismissed reports of IPL registration in an official statement. He has played for Nottinghamshire and Trent Rockets in English domestic cricket as a local player. Although overseas players can register through their cricket boards and Amir could have registered via ECB, he confirmed he is not entering the IPL auction scheduled for December 16, 2026. Amir retired from international cricket in 2024 but continues to play franchise T20 leagues worldwide, leveraging his British citizenship to participate as a domestic player in England.
