Mohammed Shami Ends Test Cricket Career Following Multiple Omissions Under Coach Gautam Gambhir
Mohammed Shami has announced his retirement from Test cricket after a 13-year career, citing repeated exclusions from the Indian Test team under head coach Gautam Gambhir. His last Test match was the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval. Despite continuing to play limited-overs formats, Shami was not selected for Test matches due to fitness concerns and competition for spots. He expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, family, the BCCI, and the Cricket Association of Bengal for their support during his career. Shami finished with 229 wickets in 64 Tests and scored 750 runs, becoming a key fast bowler for India over a decade.
