Parthiv Patel Reveals He Was Considered to Replace Virat Kohli as RCB Captain
Parthiv Patel confirmed that he was close to becoming the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain, replacing Virat Kohli, around the 2019 IPL season. Kohli had been RCB's captain since 2013 but stepped down after the 2021 season. Patel revealed that Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten, who were part of RCB then, supported his potential appointment as captain. However, the plan did not come to fruition after the franchise replaced both Nehra and Kirsten. Former England player Moeen Ali also confirmed that Patel was a leading candidate for the captaincy before the franchise decided to retain Kohli and altered the coaching setup instead.
