Ravi Shastri Expresses Disappointment Over Mohammed Shami's Test Retirement and Selectors' Decisions
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has voiced his dissatisfaction following Mohammed Shami's retirement from Test cricket, emphasizing that the fast bowler could have achieved 30 to 40 more wickets if given opportunities. Shami retired 13 years after his Test debut, having last played over three years ago, and departed with 229 wickets in 64 matches. Currently active for Bengal in domestic cricket, Shastri lamented the lack of proper utilization of Shami by the national selectors, criticizing the focus on modern fitness over bowling workload capacity. Additionally, Ajit Agarkar, former selection committee head, cited insufficient fitness updates and lack of competitive matches as reasons for the pacer's omission from recent Test series.
