Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage has been crowned men’s javelin champion at the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, producing a sensational 91.09m throw to secure one of the biggest titles of his career. The 23-year-old entered the competition as the world leader and one of the favourites after a remarkable breakthrough season. He moved into first place in the third round with a throw of 87.11m, putting pressure on a field that included some of the biggest names in world javelin.
