Shubman Gill Records Fastest Double Century as India Chases Down 406 Against West Indies in Second ODI
In the second ODI of their three-match series in Guwahati, Shubman Gill smashed the fastest double century in the format's history as India achieved the second-highest successful chase in one-day international cricket. Gill, India's captain and the top-ranked ODI batsman, remained unbeaten on 223 runs from 133 balls, reaching his century in 62 balls and his double century in 117 balls. He partnered with Rohit Sharma for a 255-run opening stand, with Sharma scoring a century off 72 balls during which he surpassed 12,000 ODI runs. The West Indies team posted a record total of 405 for seven, including centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope, and Amir Jangoo, but India's strong batting performance led them to victory with eight wickets in hand and 39 balls to spare. This was Gill's second ODI double century, making him only the second player after Rohit Sharma to achieve multiple double hundreds in the format.
