Umesh Yadav joins Punjab as guest player for 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season
The Punjab Cricket Association has signed experienced Indian pacer Umesh Yadav as a guest player for the 2026-27 domestic cricket season. Yadav, aged 38, has moved from Vidarbha with a no-objection certificate and will be the first guest player for Punjab, aiming to strengthen their bowling attack in the Ranji Trophy, which Punjab has not won since 1992. Punjab President Amarjit Mehta highlighted Yadav's credentials and experience as vital for the team and young bowlers. The move also addresses the temporary absence of fast bowlers Gurnoor Brar and Arshdeep Singh, who will be on international duty. Punjab coach Amit Uniyal affirmed Yadav's fitness and potential contributions both on the field and in mentoring younger players. Punjab's Ranji Trophy campaign starts on October 11 against Assam.
