Wasim Jaffer believes Rohit Sharma should have remained India's ODI captain until the 2027 World Cup
Former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer stated that Rohit Sharma should have continued as India’s ODI captain until the ICC ODI World Cup in 2027. Though Shubman Gill assumed captaincy in October 2025 and has performed well, Jaffer argued that Rohit's experience and current form would have been valuable for India during the tournament. Rohit recently showed strong batting performances against the West Indies, including a century and a high score of 92 in the series. Jaffer also mentioned that Rohit should have stayed captain of Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Additionally, young cricketer Tilak Varma credited Rohit for significantly influencing his leadership skills by observing Rohit’s captaincy approach.
